When I set out on my personal development journey, the path was a mystery. In fact, it would be more accurate to say that for a while my ‘journey’ was, standing around, not even knowing where the path was.
Where do we begin when things don’t quite feel right, or we have a sense there could be more to our lives, our careers?
I’ve worked with people who were in this place of mystery for years before they got in touch with me. I’ve come to see that one KEY factor in getting going is recognising that a sorry state of affairs is not ‘normal’. The implication in believing it is ‘normal’ to feel dissatisfied, is a life of dissatisfaction.
This isn’t to say that my life is a 24 hour celebration. No. What I can say, is that my life is the way I want it. Can you?
So, where did I begin?
Firstly, I noticed a growing sense of frustration. I wasn’t doing the things I wanted. I became aware of how cluttered my mind was. I had memories of deep happiness, a sense of a powerful destiny, and I realised that there was a part of me – ambitious, passionate – that I wasn’t plugged into anymore.
One of the principles I live by as a Creative Coach is that ‘I make my reality’. This code is with me every day – at work and at play. The latter is often more important because it’s not enough for me to challenge my clients over the level to which they are taking responsibility for their lives.
Some days, I’m making an awesome reality! My coaching sessions go well, I get down a few thousand words of my novel. There are lovely insights from my meditation practice. I manage a long, focused yoga workout. So, yeah, great. On those days, I can say: nice one! Keep it up!
What about the days when I’m running late, for example, and I notice how seductively stress is calling me into her lair?
These are the times I prove myself as a Creative Coach, more than the days I’m running a workshop or sending out a newsletter to my mailing list of life warriors.
It’s times of stress, or challenge, where I’m reminded of what it takes to have the life I want. This is the place we can begin: where we get clear about what that life is and the values that will help uphold it.
No mystery at all! Though, I know it can feel like that, which is why I do what I do, and if Creative Coaching can help one person begin their life today, then that is cause for a 24 hour celebration!
